Fact File

We have been looking at maps in geography and finding out about different places around the world using our detective skills.
 Look at this website:
 
Choose a country from the index, and find out as much as you can about it. 
Either create a fact file to add to the blog or bring a short presentation on your chosen country into class.
Remember: no copying!  We don’t want to get in trouble!

  1. France is a very large country, in fact its the biggest in western Europe. Its borders are so huge they touch Germany , Belgium , The Atlantic Ocean , The Pyrenees Mountains Spain , The Mediterranean sea , The Alps , Switzerland and Italy. France is known its food and hospitality ; the the Ifle Tower in France is a world famous tourist attraction ... many people from all over the world come to France to see it.

  2. Tanzania :

    It is the largest country in East Africa. Tanzania is about twice the size as California. Tanzania is bordered by the Indian Ocean. It is also bordered by Kenya, Uganda, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, Zambia and lastly, Malawi.

    Nature :
    Most of the land in Tanzania was once (A long Time ago) only bushes and savannah. But now, it is more semidesert. The biggest remaining elephant population on earth are in Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve, but they are still being killed for their ivory tusks :(

    History :
    After Tanganyika and Zanzibar became their own countries, they got together in 1964 to form the nation of Tanzania.

    Government :
    The president is the head of the country. General elections are set every 5 years. Zanzibar has its own president, assembly, ministry, as well, and makes its own laws. Zanzibar is more richer than the rest of the country. :o

    The Elephants :
    People mainly hunt and/or kill elephants mainly for their ivory tusks. Because of their size, adult African elephants have no enemies other than people. (Us... Aww I love elephants)
    The Elephant's tusks are ivory teeth that grow throughout their lives.

Afghanistan is a mountain country it have very deserts rivers . and have four season (spring.summer fall and winter)Afghanistan have 34 province and the capital of Afghanistan is Kabul the neighbor of Afghanistan is (Iran.Pakistan.China.Tajikistan.and Uzbekistan)Afghanistan is located in the central of Asia the population of Afghanistan is (35 million)the people of Afghanistan is very hospitality and brave . 99% in the Afghanistan is Muslim. it is also a democracy country and the first president was Hamid Karzai .

  4. I'm going to do my home country Afghanistan it's a beautiful country. To the
    worms to the houses. The sugarcanes in Khandhar or in my language Langham. In my opinion I think that Afghan football team is better than FCBarcalona, Afghan children are pretty good at karate. I know three city's Kabul, Langham and Baghdad. The most famous king is Ahmad Sha Abdali which his nickname is the father of Afghanistan. My grandad was the general of Afghanistan in the 1980's and a bodyguard. And thats my report about Afghanistan thank you for reading it (I've just done it out of my head because I couldn't do it on my dads phone).

  5. This is about Tanzania


    Tanzania is the largest country in Africa it contains 3 islands Zanzibar,Mafia and Pemba.It's bordered by eight countries:Uganda,Kenya,Burundi,Rwanda,Democratic republic of Congo,Zambia,Malawi and Mozambique.Mount Kilimanjro is surrounded by three lakes: Lake Victoria in the north,Lake Nyasa in the south west,Lake Tanganyika in the west.Tanzania was savannah and bush but nowadays its semi-desert.There are dozen's of wildlife in Tanzania.The elephant's in Tanzania are still being killed for their ivory tusks.The most native animals to Tanzania are;wildbeest,zebra,lion,giraffe,elephant,rhino and lepords.The other mammals such as crocodiles,hippopotamus are found in lakes and riverbaks.Giant turtles live off the coast.a national park park is well-known for chimpanzees.

    Spain is on the South West of London.Spain is a huge country.In Spain there are loads of beautiful buildings and views.In spain people go on the arena with bulls! In the East of spain there are some volcanos.In parts of Spain there are some mountiness places.One sea next to Spain can be very deadly.In the sea thre are loads of speacies looking for food.

Streams and lakes shelter trout, barbel, and tench fish. But many species of wildlife face threats from habitat loss and pollution.

  7. Egypt is officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt. In 2012 the population was just over 83 million ! All of Egypt is basically a dessert except for the River Nile, the river flows from north to south. It is usually put into section ; upper Egypt in the south and lower Egypt in the north , it is like this because the River Nile gos south to north.
    The capital city is called Cairo.

  8. ! Italy !

    Italy is on the South East of England. On the map Italy look's like a girls boot kicking a small rock. The capital of Italy is Rome also because if you heard or not of a old stoy (legend). The story was of two boys that lived long time ago in Italy.
    Their father was a builder and then he died. After the father died the boys were fighting for the name of the capital city. In the night one boy came with a knife when the other boy was sleeping and then he killed him and the name of the capital city was his. In Italy there are loads of boats and rivers. The rivers are between houses.
    Italy is a poor country.


    NATURE


    For 22 centuries, Italians and their ancestors have cleared fields, grazed livestock, and hunted wild animals. Forests that once covered large areas are gone. But the country's remote places and many national parks still have wilderness largely untouched by humans.

  9. The capital city of Brazil is Brasilia . It has borders with every South American country except Chile and Ecuador. Amazon forest the biggest jungle lives is Brazil.The colossal nation is the 5th largest in the world ! Northern Brazil is surrounded by the enormous River Amazon and all the other jungles.

The world's highest mountain rage, the Himalayas, it rises in the North. The southeast is bordered by the Bay of Bengal, and the southwest is bordered by the Arabian Sea.

    Nature:
    For thousands of years, since the first Hindu religion involved, respect for animal life has been an important part for the Indian's belief. Cows in particular are sacred and cannot be harmed. They are even to wander through the streets, which often causes traffic jams!

    Government and economy:
    India's parliamentary government was in inherted from the British. After independence in 1947, one party, the Congress party and one family, the Nehru family, dominated politics for decades. Now, however, many parties compete for elected positions.

  12. Columbia

    This is the 5th largest country in South America, bordering two oceans, the Atlantic & the Pacific. It is the second biggest population of Spanish speakers in the world, which was influenced by Columbia being under Spanish rule for over 250 years.

    In history, Columbia was covered in an enormous jungle, (Columbia is still home to 10% of all animals in the world, but only 1% of the worlds’ land area!) however people have cleared most of the trees to create farmlands and now Columbia is one of the largest exporters of coffee; not forgetting bananas, oil, coal, gold platinum and sparkling green emeralds.

    Furthermore Columbia has many tunnels full of architecture and history, where tourist enjoy exploring. Columbia is additionally home to many beautiful beaches.

  13. Canada is the country I'm going to focus on in this file. Canada is partly in the Artic Circle but mostly in North America just north of the USA. The land area is 9,093,507 square km making it the second largest country in the world by total area second only to Russia. Canada is made up of 10 provinces and 3 territories. There are over 30000 lakes in Canada, some of which it shares with the U.S.A. Summers can be extremely hot and winters can quite cold with the temperature dropping to -40 degrees in some areas.

    The united states of america is the third largest country in size and nearly the third largest terms of population.Located in north america,the country is bordered on the west by the pacific ocean and to the east by the Atlantic ocean.Along the northern border is Canada and the southern border is Mexico.There are 50 states and the District of Columbia.More than twice the size of the European Union,the United states has high mountains in the west and a vast central plain.The lowest point in the country is in Death Valley which is at -282 feet (-86 meters) and the highest peak is Mt. McKinley at 20,320 feet (6,198 meters).
    Nature.
    the landscape varies across the large country from tropical beaches in Florida to peaks in the Rocky Mountains,from rolling prairie lands and barren deserts in the west to dense wilderness areas in the North East and North west.Interspersed throughout are the Great lakes.

  15. RUSSIA
    geography
    Russia is the biggest contrary in the world. It's so big it connects to three oceans (Atlantic, pacific, and the Arctic) and cover to continents (Europe, and Asia). There
    are both deserts and snow in Russia and 3/4 of Russia is covered in the pine forests of Siberia.

    Nature:
    Russia is home to black bears, snow leopards, polar bears a small rodents called pikes. The most famous known animal in Russia is the Siberian tiger, which can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh up to 300 kg.

    History:
    Around 500AD settlers mixed with Slavs from the west in the land now known as Ukraine (in Kiev). The empire that emerged ruled most of Russia for 200 years which then became Ukraine, Belarus and Muscovy.

    in the 1550's Ivan the fourth became Russia's first Tsar ruler. He drove the Mongols out. Peter the Great became Tsar in 1682 and worked to make Russia into a modern country.

    From 1917 the country changed when the people overthrew the government and became a communist country under Lenin and was called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR). It fought in WWII along side the US, but after that they both were not friends. this was the start of the Cold War and USSR remained communist until 1991 when finally the cold war ended and Russia entered a new era of non-communism.

    People & Culture:
    80% of Russians can link back to the Slavs, the rest are made up of the Taters (Mongols) and Ukrainians. Russians are famous for being great thinkers, artists, writers and ballet dancers.

    Government & Economy:
    Russia is made up of 86 republics (similar to the American 50 states). Moscow is the Capital and the now democratic president is elected by the people. The economy is based on the digging up of oil,coal, iron and gold.
