Fog.

These photographs were taken today by @MPSinthesky, the Twitter account managed by those flying London's police helicopters.  They do a very important job protecting our city, and they also get a great view, which they like to share!

The first picture shows the fog covering everything but the very centre of London, and the second one is of Canary Wharf, with the skyscraper buildings poking out above the fog!

The pictures really made my imagination start to race! Imagine if the fog was thicker? Imagine if it didn't go away? What if the fog started to creep into the buildings?  If anyone is reading The Magician's Nephew with Mr Wright, you may have read about a very thick, mysterious foggy light...

Imagine you are in the middle of this foggy city. Write a description of your surroundings. Think about what you can see and hear. How do you feel? Are there other people around you? Who might you meet there?

Let your imagination go for a wander into this strange new place!

I look forward to reading your contributions by Wednesday 18th December.

Finally, this picture of a London landmark was also taken by @MPSinthesky today too. Can you work out where it is?

Mrs Messa

  1. As I got off the bus, I saw that I was encompassed by fog. I could hear the flooded wind racing wildly around in the fog. All I could see was a thick mist of white, fluffy fog, plus I could only see one metre away. The only thing I could feel was my daddy’s hand.

That very morning, daddy woke- up with a big grin on his face. He asked me if I would like to go to his work place, as it was ‘Take your child to work day’. We both went on a red, shiny, and radiant bus trip. I couldn’t see a single thing in my sight, because the fog was covering the window.

I held daddy’s hand tight, because I knew that was the only thing that could keep me safe. A hustle of residents came barging my way and my grasp of daddy’s hand faltered. Suddenly, I realised a wrinkly hand took hold of me. I couldn’t see, but I felt it was not daddy …

Your second post is spot on, but I won't publish it immediately so the others can have a chance at guessing too! Well done!

I can only see the buildings & people passing by.I could hear the areoplane rushing through the fog.I could hear the people chatting to each other & the boats floating.

I felt horrified !.I feel like I would get lost .I feel like I want to go home urgently!.

There were thousands of people who are surrounding me.They make me feel I would get lost and no one can help me.

I meet strangers, they might be someone else who I don't know.
I reached home ,but I don't know how! FINALLY?????

  7. After my birthday party we were going up to London. When we got to London by train,I could only just see how to get off.I came out of the train station thinking it would be nice weather but I could barely get off it was that foggy.Nothing was to be seen except from a big, white cloud.

I held my Dad's hand. We all thought there might have been a storm of some kind. Before we left from my cool party it was absolutely amazing weather funnily enough.

When we got home I turned on the TV and put the news on.The top story was in London exactly where we were.It actually showed a picture of big buildings. The top of the buildings were actually poking out of the sky.It looked like the fog was lots of snow in the picture.

  9. Dear Mrs Messa,
I am Ishaan from Downing Street class, and I like your blog. I think that the last image of the London landmark is the O2 Arena.

  12. I walked out of my house and the whole sky was covered in thick grey fog. There was not one person about. "What's happened?" I shouted very loudly. I was very scared when an old lady started talking to me. "Can't you see, there's a fog storm?"
"Ok,and thanks for telling me." Then I started walking around and around in a circle, and bumped into this grey man."W w who are you?" I stammered.
"I am the fog man and I made all this fog fog fog. All this fog fog fog." he sang cheerfully.

Immediately it got very dark and gloomy, also it started getting really windy. Suddenly the fog man disappeared, it was almost as if he went into a new world. "I'm frightened when I'm on my own in the fog" I said to myself as I tried to walk but I couldn't see that well. So I had to move very slowly. I could hear the blowing wind really loudly in my ears. I put my hands out in front of me so I didn't bump into anything.

Eventually the fog cleared up I could see every thing again. Everyone came out there house, the big, golden sun came out of the cloud like a man coming out from a door.

As dawn approached, I woke up and peered outside.

After I ate my breakfast, I looked out of the window and saw a grey sheet of fog floating amidst the trees. The snow that had gathered from last night had hardened into ice. I was ready to ski. Excitedly I ran out of the house and wondered which way to go. I decided that I would go left and walked quickly. The fog had enclosed me and looked as thick as a woollen blanket. While I walked forward, I heard birds tweeting on the trees. I tripped on cold hard metal. Unknowingly I crossed a train track.

The cold breeze whipped my face and I was enjoying skiing. Suddenly out of the fog I saw something tall. I tried to slow down but I almost bashed into a tree. I stopped! It was getting too dreary and dangerous. I followed my footprints to reach home. Half way through, a stranger appeared through the thick fog. I knew he looked like a policeman. He warned, “Stop! Don’t go any further or you’ll get lost.” The kind policeman swayed his torch as we walked with great difficulty. I saw my house emerge in front. The policeman left me and disappeared into the gloomy fog.
