The day I met...

Hyde Park received this exciting and mysterious letter at the end of last week.

Wild Thing Publishing Co.

Monday 17th March 2014

 Dear Class,

Let me introduce myself; my name is Mr Wild E. Beast (you can call me Wil), and I specialise in publishing books on the Natural World.  I am especially interested in rare and magical beasts, about whom we know very little.

As a publisher, I wish all of my new releases to be ground breaking!  Therefore, I am writing from the Wild Thing Publishing Co. with a special request.  Our newest and most exciting title is to be called ‘Wild Things Around The World’.   I understand from my researchers that you have specialist knowledge in this field of learning.

I would like a collection of approximately thirty (30) beasts, including detailed descriptions of appearance (supported by diagrams of course); information regarding habitats, diet and hunting habits; any important adaptations; explanations about how the beast lives and, most importantly, whether or not they are a danger to humanity.

Of course, with your expertise, I am certain that you will be able to give me even more information than that – these are merely the guidelines I set out for all of my contributing authors.

I very much look forward to receiving your completed collection by the end of April 2014.

Yours Faithfully,

Wild E. Beast.

As well as replying to Mr Beast, and starting to write the Wild Thing profiles he asked for, we started to think about how we could write in the style of other genres.

One idea was to write a recount about the time you met or discovered the Wild Thing you are going to write about.

For your blog this week, this is what I would like you to do!  (If you started this in class, you can either continue it on here, or choose a different text type!)

I look forward to reading your exciting, adventurous and imaginative blog entries!

I will be looking for correctly written sentences, interesting vocabulary and evidence of lots of thought!

I look forward to reading your blog posts - on paper or online -  by Friday 4th April (I am a bit late posting this week!)

  3. We planned a surprise picnic for my Mum on Mother’s day. I woke up, the sun was shining and there was a bright, blue sky waiting for us outside it was the best day to do it!
Off we set to Cheltenham forest, where there was an absolutely brilliant amusement park just across the road. We were of course going to go to the forest first, because we wanted to find some friendly animals to play with and run around freely enjoying ourselves.

I asked mum if we could go and play in the woods, to see if we could make some friends or find some animals to play with.

Mum told us not to pick any wild berries, and mushrooms, which I already knew not to pick mushrooms. I didn’t like them anyway so I was never going to pick them.

Daniel and I ventured through the woods in search of mini beasts and creatures. As we got deeper in the woods, I looked over my shoulder to see if anything or anyone was behind us, but I did not see anything, so we carried on.

We stopped to look at the towering trees above us, and then heard a weird noise, it sounded like a rattle snake. It startled us, and we both jumped and looked at each other.
As we slowly turned around, in front of us was a three headed creature......
It was as tall as a mini bus and had thousands of teeth, it shimmered in the sunlight, scowling at us fiercely.
Daniel screamed so loud, you could hear him on the other side of the world!

We ran as fast as our legs could take us, panting and puffing trying to get away from the horrible creature, which was chasing us.
We found a treehouse that we scrambled up to and slammed the door shut. We had to keep as quiet as a mouse.
After about 10 minutes we came out as the beast had flown away, we were safe, but that was a very close encounter.

We found our way back to Mum and Dad and told them all about our adventure.

  4. My family planned a surprise party for my mum outside in the park which was more like a forest.
We went deep into the forest and the deeper we go the more dark it becomes.
When we arrived at the picnic place me and my cousin started catching a butterfly and we got lost I was stressed at first and usually when I'm stressed or scared whatever part of my body is shivering.
After a while I heard something coming from the lake and it sounded like gulp gulp gulp gulp and then right there drinking from the lake I saw a monster wich I named Butterraboctola.
It had a head of a rabbit wings of a butterfly arms of an octopus and a lion tail.
Then my mum and my cousins mum found us and took us back to the picnic place where we told them all about our adventure through the forest.

And in the volcano there was a monster so i took it to a scientist and he said it was a wild thing which was a rare form of wild thing called lava-tron so i put him back in the volcano and went home.

  6. One frosty morning, I woke up to find it was the beginning of the winter holidays. The first thing I thought about was swimming because the water would warm up my body and I had heard there was a Wild Thing living near local swimming pools.

Excitedly, I rushed to mummy’s side, and asked about going for a relaxing, yet investigative swim.

“Yes!” mummy replied simply, oblivious to my need to search for the creature.

After an hour of waiting, we finally set off to the local swimming pool.

When I got changed to go swimming, mummy wondered off to the gym. That left me alone to search for the Black-Virtue, my mysterious Wild Thing.

I had heard the Wild Thing was fierce, ferocious, fast and furious. It had a tail full of venom, plus, it lived in water. The creature lurked about in swimming pools during the winter months.

Happily, I slid into the warm pool and started to swim. When I was on my 5th length, I felt a soft, silky, scaly body. Then I heard legs, scurrying across the bottom of the swimming pool. Next, I smelt meat.

Eventually, I realised it was the Black-Virtue!

Luckily, I had my goggles on so I could see the creature. It was coming towards me, saying:
    “Dinner is early today!”

As fast as the wind, I swam to the nearest exit of the pool, rushing out of the swimming pool, bumping into mummy.

“How was your swim?” She asked innocently.

“It was great,” I replied out of breath and looking behind me at the water in the pool.

I’m never telling anyone this great secret about the Wild Thing. It’s my discovery, not yours!

  7. There was a wild beast named danger beast . He one of the most furious and scariest in the whole wild land. He was as big as a blue whale . He was as dangerous as a tornado . He was DESTRUCTIVE . He was INVINCIBLE.

His behavior is very rude. He doesn't listen to anyone. He ignores everything . He does whatever he wants. He is very annoying. He never takes care of himself,he is a very bossy person He is never ever lovely

He is a Omnivore. He can eat meat or he can eat grass. He more likely eats meat but when he can't find anything he eats grass or plants. He eats quite big things. Sometimes bigger than him and sometimes smaller things than him.

  8. On the 7th of April , me and my mum decided to plan a fun walk around the city and the park. It was a pulchritudinous day. The sun was on backgroung of a good-looking, bright blue sky. At 11 we started to pack up. We got : bannanas, water, blanket and a basket. At 12 we arrived at the park first. The park was near a forest. We set up our mini picnic. First the blanket then the basket and finally the bannanas. I was quite bored so I started to chat to my mum about school and F1 , and then I heared somebody calling my name."Aleks, Aleks". I looked around and it was Seth. Then I started shouting "Seth". Intrestingly, seth had a football so I asked my mum if I could play with him and she said that you will ask him yourself. I came up to him and asked seth.
"Please may I play with you Seth"
"Offcourse. Would you like to play a match or penalty shoot out?"
"Hmmmm....... Penalty shoot out , please."
    "Oki doki"
We got some sticks and set up the goal. First it was seth's turn.

    Seth Aleks

    Goal Save
    Save Goal
    Goal Goal
    Miss Miss
    Goal Save

After the shoot out seth won 3-2. Then seth saw a forest. It didn't look scary or spooky.
So we asked our parents and they said "yes". We changed into trainers and went off to our epic journey. We looked around and I said "This place dosen't look scary or hounted, so lets go more off into the forest.

Then something brown and grey whizzed through the woods. The creature kept on whizzing around and suddenly he stoped and hid behind a scrached tree. The only way you could describe it is : big black horns, shy green eyes, big pink nose, brown and grey stripes and sharp long claws. Suddenly, the beast started to speak. (I nearly fainted).
In a low voice the beast said "hello who are you, whats your name?"
"Eeeeeeeeehhhh......... my name is seth and he is aleks"
"Okkkkkkk........... my name is clumsy beast , how did you get here?"
    " It's a long story"
After wards the clumsy beast went chasing after his prey. That was our only chance to escape.
    "RUN"

We finally got to our parents and did not say anything about the beast.
At 3 we had to pack up to go home. I asked seth if he would like to come to my house, and he said yes. On the way home we saw a wierd looking thing far away.
"Seth do you think what i'm thinking?"
    "Yes"
Then I fainted and thats the end of the story!

  9. My beast's name is Mango Squash and is the most friendliest beast in the whole entire world. As well as being very friendly, she gets really shy when she performs on the stage in front of a lots of people/other beasts. Once she performed in a school play (in front of loads of parents), he got sick and someone had to take his place. So, if you ever get to meet her, never make her the centre of attention.

Now, let's move on to her diet. You might think that she eats fresh meat, but you're thinking completely wrong; she only eats fruits like bananas, apples, oranges, watermelons and loads more. She also drinks fruit juice and sometimes the big, juicy and savoury lemons. She gets really happy when someone or somebeast helps her to get some fruit

  10. I woke up on a bright sunny Easter's morning, thinking that the Easter bunny sent me and my family something special. But when I got downstairs, my jaw almost fell of my body! It was just a letter! I was expecting something more... you know... fun and exciting. Unexpectedly, I opened the envelope of the letter and realised that letter was actually no ordinary letter; It was a token to an exotic; Easter-like island! The name was known as: Egghunter planet.

"Sheesh! Who comes up with these names," I thought aggressively. "I better go to anonymous land HAHAHAHAHAHA!" ( I know it's not funny ).

I sprinted upstairs to my mum and dad's room, and showed them the letter.

They said, "Who is it from?" they questioned.

"It's probably from the Easter bunny, he is the one who comes on Easter's night," I answered.

" Hmm? That's a good point," replied my mum.

"Hey, what do you say that we go to this Egghunter planet and have some fun?" asked Dad.

"OK then, lets do it," I replied. Furthermore, I sounded like an athlete participating in a contest; bringing my indomitable spirit with me.

Two hours later, I was sailing the seven seas; in our rowing boat; feeling a little bit seasick. It was a long drive from home to the planet Egghunter. It was precisely, five-hundred miles away from my house. Eventually, fourteen hours later, we arrived at our destination. The island looked like a candy maze, because the entire island was made out of candy! But we only had to find the Easter eggs, so that's in mind, it felt like a maze.

After a long dieciving argument, sneakily, I left on my own, and found a dark mysterious cave with a bleaming blue light inside. I walked inside and discovered an unknown specie of wild, peacefully resting on a lair of heavy rocks and pebble stones. I tried to be as quiet as possible, though I did try as hard as I could. It woke up, it showed its terrible claws; gnashed its horrible teeth and rolled its menacing eyes at me. I ran as fast as I could, though that wild thing could sprint faster. But then that wild thing, used its adaptation to camouflage and sneak up quietly on me. But I stayed smart and kept moving left and right, so it would be harder for that wild thing to hide upon me. Unfortunately, it worked! The wild thing started to pant and then it walked slowly back to its cave. On the other hand, it showed a sighn to me, that it had got its eye on me.

When I got back, my parents asked, " Where have you been? You missed the whole entire egghunt.

"I will tell you about it, it is a long story," I replied.

  11. I woke up on a sunny morning and thought of going to see my friend ' The Rainforest Beast', (but in my opinion it wasn't really a beast ). Also it didn't look like a beast. It looked like a rainbow it was multicoloured with plants and gem-stones covering its upper body. I got ready and set off to my secret garden lair where the beast lives. I secretly brought snacks with me like crisps, nuts, and all sorts of food.

I entered the secret lair and found the beast snoring : ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz I had to scream louder than ever so that the beast could stop snoring. I was so loud that my mum nearly fainted while rushing out of the house to see if I safe. I had to run out of my secret lair and play along so I just said : " OUCHHH , I just twisted my ankle, so my mum took me inside and didn't even allow me to go outside so I couldn't see the beast.

Finally I had recovered from my fake injury and I was allowed to go outside so I did , I went to see Rainy (which is the beasts nickname ) and it was as comfortable as ever, I felt really offended that I nearly cried because whenever I'm around he thinks I don't let it relax. Rainy then said that he was sorry and that he was only trying to feel less alone from me not being around. I forgave it and gave it a big hug.

I let my mum and dad meet Rainy and showed it how to live properly and we gave it food, facts/education,watching TV and all experiences that humans have. I felt like Rainy was a part of my family and it all worked out well so we can all say that we lived happily ever after.

    THE END

Zara, I'm loving how your beast is friendly. When I was in year 4 we wrote our own versions of the wild things, are you still doing that?

  13. I woke up it was Easter Sunday. Birds were chipping and frogs were croaking. I thought the Easter bunny might have sent me a present or a chocolate egg. Like a cheetah I dashed downstairs, unhappy to see no present or egg but instead a letter. When I picked up the letter I scanned and read it. It looked like a treasure map because it had instructions. The letter was gigantic, almost about the size of two A4 pieces of papers.
I followed the co-ordinates for approximately one hour, and I stopped and looked around. In front of me was something that looked like a cave so I went in. It wasn't very dark so I could see myself. then I saw something hairy and scary. It was a wild thing!
Quick as a flash I dashed out of the cave with the wild thing shouting must eat humans repeatedly. finally I lost the beast and ran straight home to find my parents asleep.
I never forget the time I met a wild thing.

  14. It was a warm afternoon in the summer when we decided to go the park. I was playing a ball game with my dad and younger sister when my ball went in the bushes. I charged into the bushes to get my ball, and there it was. It was a wild thing stuck in a tree.

It was a horrifying experience but also exciting. The wild thing had 3 eyes, 2 horns, 5 ears and 10 arms with 100 fingers on each arm, it was horribly smelly. It had 6 wobbly legs on each side.

In the softest, gentlest voice he said “Hello Seth” and I rushed off. He seemed to keep following me. Then he “said nice to meet you”. We shook hands and he dashed back into the bushes.

  15. I am walking in a beautiful forest; with lots of tall white trees and rock hard twigs on the brown muddy ground. Through the trees you can see the lovely bright sun glimmering in the breeze. My family all say " What a beautiful forest this is, we should come here every weekend"

Suddenly I find out that I am lost I couldn't see my family anywhere, I couldn't even hear my sisters ( I normally can hear them ). Then I heard mosquitoes all around me, then I knew that I was becoming petrified.

Then I heard big, loud and heavy footsteps, they were like a giant's footsteps. In the distance I could hear howling, I think it was wolf howling but I did not know for sure. I try to see where to go ...

I start to walk to a place I think I know ( but I am wrong ). I then I hear a footsteps, quieter than the ones before but still quite loud. Then I turn around to see if anything is behind me, I see a huge wild thing.

I try to run away but he caught me, he takes me to his home and on our journey I say to myself " There is no escaping now. " When we get to his home I get kept for him.

Finally he falls asleep and I can escape. When I get out his huge house I see a big castle, in one of the windows I see my sister waving at me. I ran to the castle and tell my family " I will never run off again. I am very sorry. "

  16. A beautiful sunny Saturday morning and the car was all packed and ready for my birthday bash at Black park. As we enter the gates my attention and thoughts went straight to the tall trees and enourmous bushes, "that would be a great place to hide" I said to myself.
We parked and began to set up the party, tables, chairs and balloons and banners looked lovely! As I began to put the packed food on the table, I noticed a cave with an object moving like a shadow. I blinked a few times but I saw it again and again.
My friends arrived slowly and we played hockey and Jack hit the ball and it landed in the cave. We rushed to see where the ball had gone, I was scared as I saw shadows before and kept quite. I told my friends not to go in but they didn't listen. I called my dad, to all our amazement we met a tall, wild monster with spooky eyes and prickles all over his body, he looked sad. My dad took the ball and we all ran out of the cave!
Phew, we quickly packed up the party and left, never to see the monster again.

  17. A few weeks ago I met a wild thing! You'd expect them to be wild and scary right? You're wrong [ well only this time ] because I met one ! Anyways, I just tell you the story .

One sunny Spring morning on Saturday I was lying down in my bed, eyes wide open . 'hhuuuuuhh' I sighed . I was as bored as a bug , ' better go outside for some fresh air ' I thought. So I went downstairs and walked into my garden . My dad who was resting under a umbrella , saw me and cheerfully said ' Its a beautiful day no need to be dull, come on we're going'' where?!'
    I asked .' You'll see'...

When my dad and I got there , there was an enormous field bigger than a football pitch with a shady wood about the width of three houses !!! I rushed over to the wood and an huge archway made out of bamboo. I stepped it was moderately muddy but not too, out of the corner of my eye I saw a shadow. I turned my head to the direction of the shadow , suddenly it whisked into thin air . The creature stood in front of me, it had rounded eyes and a chubby pot-bellie . His hair was crazy! Some here some there some everywhere !!! ' Hey! its time to go home.' My Dad called, hearing this the wild thing was scared. Just before running off he smiled a wide grin as if to say bye, want to meet again ? .

On the way home my dad asked me what I was doing in the wood 'Oh not much' I replied .

  18. Me and Yasmina took our Mums to the same park. We asked if we could explore. Our Mums said yes, so we went into the forest. Inside we saw a cave. Inside the cave was a voice . Yasmina was too shy, so she waited alone outside, while I sneaked in. “WHO GOES THERE!?”came a booming voice.
A small creature came out of the shadow and in to the light. It had an elephant shaped face, goat horns, two wolf legs, two leopard legs, 12 insect legs and a fox tail with a wasp sting. I felt my legs wobble like jelly as it came closer. Then it spoke in a nice soft voice “will you come and have tea with me?” He asked. After 5 sips of tea he fell asleep. “Yes” I thought “I can escape”. I crept out trying not to tread on his super monster bones. Me and Yasmina ran back through the dark forest, as fast as we could, and told our Mums everything!
