Many children are more interested in playing than they aA survey of children's attitudes how you think or feel about somethingto sport has revealed that many boys and girls don't care about winning or losing.

'Playing for fun', 'being with friends', and 'getting time off lessons' seem to be more important reasons for getting involved.

Over three fifths of the 1000 children surveyed didn't mind the idea of competition being removed entirely from school sports, so long as they got to take part.

It turns out that competition is far more important to some parents than it is for their children.

What do you think?  Is it good to be competitive or are you not that bothered either?

  1. It's good to be competitive but not over competitive. I'm not bothered if I win or lose, I just like to have a good time and enjoy what I do. There again I am competitive but not to competitive, because if I am sure I've got something right and I find out I get it wrong I would be very disappointed and upset.

  2. Children appear for exams, so their teachers will know their grades. But several intelligent kids worry about their ranks/marks they'll get in these tests. Similarly, contenders in various sport have the same issue.

On the other hand, some people don't care if they have passed or not unless they have tried their best. Furthermore, it is important to pass, but it is even more important to try your best.

In my opinion, I wouldn't be concerned if I failed, as long as I tried.

  3. Competitive means to be as good as or better than others. This can be linked to sport; football, rounders and basketball and various subjects, including Maths, English and Art.

It is good to be competitive, because being competitive is all about challenges. To take on any challenge, you need to be competitive inside, so you win.

On the other hand, it’s quite horrible to be competitive, because you can become selfish, “I’m winning and you’re not!” Also if you lose this can affect your confidence.

Overall, I think I wouldn’t be bothered about winning or losing, as long as I take part. I think it is because taking part is better than winning, as long as you have a go!

Do you agree with me or do you have a competitive nature?

  4. I actually think taking part is more important. I love to win all the hockey matches I play, but this is not possible. When we lose it makes me feel sad, but we look for other ways to do better.
I can be competitive, but always remember to not go over the top.

  5. I don't worry if I lose or win.The important thing is to try.Even in test I don't care if I get less marks.I only care if I have given an attempt. In some tests its important to get more marks. It's important to have both friends and study. If I get something wrong I can learn from that mistake.

In my opinion I think it is not important to win or lose, it is important to try.

  6. I think it is good to have some competitiveness, as it makes you want to try a little harder and challenge yourself. But it is important to remember to enjoy yourself and have fun, in whatever activity you are doing.
I do not mind if I do not win, as long as I have participated and enjoyed myself and done the best I could.

  7. I understand why the children don't really care for winning or losing because sometimes it is more important friendship than nothing else.
I never really care about winning or losing because usually I go on sports to have fun not to win trophies or medals!

  8. I think not being competitive shows that you just want to get involved but don't mind about winning or losing. If you're not competitive losing won't affect your attitude.
In my opinion I prefer to take part, win or lose because I don't if I lose or win.

Although, being competitive can teach you how to try your best because you want to win. If you want to win you have to be competitive. While trying to be competitive you have to focus on yourself and nobody else, this can be very selfish.

  9. Children do not care about winning or losing because taking part matters not the wining or losing. In other reasons people would care about wining because they will think that they are the best.

  10. I think that it is good to be competitive because its good to know who is the best at what ever it is there doing. This is a because it makes you play harder and better and it improves your game.its also shows how should get demoted and who should get promoted

  11. Its good to be a little competitive but not to be too selfless at the same , but the main point of playing the game taking part in it not winning . Its ok to be confident , or in other words , to believe in yourself , but not to the point where start to show off , which could hurt others feelings . As for me I don't mind who wins or loses because I always have in the end , unless the winner mocks others for losing , thats just mean.

  12. I am not really a competitive person, so I am not really bothered about winning or losing, as long as I, and others get a chance to take part. I like to participate in sports to have fun with my friends. I would be really sad if we had no more sports sessions, as I like playing sports. I think some parents are more worried about their child being competitive than if their child if their child is actually happy with what they are doing. The good thing about being competitive is that you may push yourself harder to achieve your goals.

  13. I do care about winning but not as much as participating. I would be ok with losing but I would feel like I should have tried harder. I think being competitive is a good way to learn to challenge others. Most people like to win because they think they’re the best. Aiming to win is good because you know you did your best. Not aiming to win means there’s no pressure to be your best and you can relax afterwards and think that was a fascinating race. I would want to win but losing wouldn’t be a disaster.
