The Library

This weekend, Mrs Messa visited the library at Ham House.

It was first created in the late 1600s and it contains 2600 books.

Look at the pictures of the library at Ham House and the library at Chatsworth.  Our library was created in 2012.

Can you spot any similarities (things that are the same) or differences (things that are not the same)?

This is a world map.  Can you see Great Britain?

What do you think you would find in these books?

  5. Well!

What a lot of questions. I have been very pleased to see how interested you have all been, and am particularly impressed that Leilani and Aleks have been answering my questions too!

There have been too many questions to publish all of them, but I will answer as many as I can here! I have now opened a 'Question' page which is to go alongside our 'Any Questions' wall in class.

Jack, I wasn't allowed to touch any of the books as they are so old and precious it might have damaged them. I bet there are Viking sagas there though!

Vansh, perhaps we could write them a letter and ask them if they have any Viking stories? And yes, I have found Great Britain; it was quite a challenge! Have you? The library only had one floor, and was definitely smaller than the bus! Only about 10 people could go in at once!

Vallabh, Ham House was very big - even bigger than Chatsworth I think. Perhaps we could ask Mr Wright if we could go for a visit?

Daniyal, I don't think even I could read 10 books in one weekend! Though I would very much like to try!

Now it's your turn Hyde Park! I've answered your questions, now you can answer mine...

Remember: capital letters and full stops for every sentence, and read your sentences through before posting!

  12. The books at Ham House look very old and the books at the library in Chatsworth look new.Great Britain is on the right side of the map and at Ham House you find old fashion books and in our library you find new books for example as Beast Quest and our library has no information books but Ham House has information like shakespeare books for what he does and how he speaks.Ham House is different then our library because it has higher shelfs and ours has lower shelfs and not a lot of books and Ham House has 2600 books.Ham House has books and our libary has books and Ham House has a table and chairs to write the books and sign them in and out.Our library has books about dinosuars and ships and fariytales and the books at Ham House are about information.

  13. There are so many more books In Ham House than in our library. I think in those books that are on the table you would find out about the books on the shelves and when the book was written. Our Library has got much more space, it's more airy and bright, while Ham house is a bit dark. Definitely there is more books in Ham House than in our Library. Well they both have chairs and tables. In Ham House the shelves are very high, You might need a ladder to reach some of those! I hope you had a good time at Ham House Mrs Messa!

  14. The differences between the library at Ham House and our library are:there's much, much higher bookshelves at Ham House. There are definitely not so old books at our library,we don't have a map of the world and the Ham House library do have it.Our library has steps to go upstairs and I think the Ham House library don't have steps and also Ham House is a building and our library is a bus.

The similarities between the libraries are:that they both have loads and loads of amazing and fantastic books, both of the libraries have tables, chairs and sofas.
The two libraries have bookshelves that are made out of super strong wood and also they have a very soft carpets.

  17. In Ham house the books look bigger than our library books. Also I think all the books are non-fiction and some of them look like that tell about famous people like shake speare . I think there are 1587 books or more in our school library.

  18. You would find very old things. Our library is very neat and very tidy. Viking sagas must have been found in there and Greek mypholigy too. The shelves are very large at Ham House. Our library is cleaner and you can read every book. They must have at least 2220954664346 books in their library. I cannot find Great Britan on the map , but I am sure that its there. The books here would be little and long , but in Ham House the books would be big and heavy and long.

  19. The difference between the two library is that the Ham House has much bigger shelves and big books that are quiet old too. The school library has much easier and smaller books. But the similarity is that they both have books.

  21. The similarities between Ham House and the libary bus are books, shelves and publicy. The differences between Ham House and the libary bus are stairs, place and furniture. I think the the UK is on the left hand side of the entire world. Furthermore, I think that the books in Ham House had some ancient old interesting non-fiction legends.

  26. The shelfs at Ham House are much bigger than the shelfs in our libary, and the books too.The united kingdom is near Africa, its a small ,curved , pointy dot.I think thebooks were read by millions of peoplr and mite have been expensive (I'm estimating about fifty pounds.
